Year 5 for The Division 2 is now underway. Or, at least, that was what Ubisoft had originally planned. Unfortunately, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment had a few hiccups during the deployment of the new season which brings a ton of new content to the looter shooter.
The servers for The Division 2 went offline for maintenance on June 8. Ubisoft initially announced an estimated downtime of three hours to deploy the new update. However, it took a while longer as the development team encountered issues affecting save game files.
"The maintenance has been extended for an additional 6 hours due to an unexpected issue affecting the save game files," the official The Division 2 account tweeted. "Our team is actively working to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience caused, and we'll keep you updated on the progress."
Ubisoft did finally announce the completion of the server maintenance today. The servers went online around 26 hours after being taken offline. The studio is making up for the delay with an upcoming global event.
"Good morning, Agents! We are happy to announce that the game will be back online at 11:00 AM CEST, 5:00 AM EDT, 2:00 AM PDT," Ubisoft tweeted. "To make up for losing one day of the double XP, an additional Golden Bullet GE will be added to the Seasonal schedule. Thank you for your patience!"

It isn't the first time devs at Massive Entertainment encountered issues deploying updates on its servers. Previously, we had reported that the developers accidentally locked themselves out of their own servers causing a massive delay in the arrival of the update. The studio had to extend the season for a lengthy period as devs worked on fixing the issue.
What is coming with Year 5 Season 1: Broken Wings
The newest season of The Division 2 introduces a new rogue-lite game mode called Descent. Players entering the mode will leave their gear and SHD tech behind and start each run from scratch. Agents can build up their loadouts by fighting their way deeper into the game mode. The final boss of the mode is called Nemesis and will simulate an actual player.
Season 1: Broken Wings will also have a new twist on the Manhunt mode. Instead of taking out targets, players must now rescue civilians kidnapped by Black Tusk. Mari Singh is the primary target of the Manhunt and she will be the key to rebuilding the Castle settlement.
Completing the Manhunt will reward players with new items including the St. Elmo’s Engine assault rifle, Shocker Punch holster, Cabaret MP5 ST, and Big Show MG5 LMG. Players can also collect the Electrique and Cavalier gear sets from the mode.
The Manhunt mode will be available to players that have the Warlords of New York expansion. The Descent game mode will be available to all Division 2 players.
The Division 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
